Mobile spring in the air at Berlingske Media

Berlingske Media offers all of seven mobile news portals. In co-operation with Unwire, five of the mobile portals have now been optimised for touch phones and support entirely new ways of personalising how news items are displayed on your phone.

The new features on the mobile portals are being launched at the same time as the media provider is offering mobile subscriptions via Berlingske Mobil and BT Mobil. This venture, which among other things enables mobile customers to surf free of charge on the mobile portals m.berlingske.dk og m.business.dk or m.bt.dk and m.sporten.dk.

Now it gets personal!

Anders Oliver Andersen, Group Mobile Manager, explains about the new mobile portals: “We have attached great importance to users of our mobile services being largely able to decide for themselves which news they would like served up on their mobile, and in which order the news items should appear. For example, you can choose whether you are most interested in news from Domestic, Foreign, Crime, Sport, etc. You can also choose how many articles are to be shown for each domain and whether you want them with or without images.”

Unwire has been working flat out to ensure that the layout of the mobile portals matches the design of the respective printed and Internet editions of the news services. According to Unwire’s Development Manager Jens Møller, the solutions are generally made for better exploitation of CSS and JavaScript on high-end devices. In other words, most advanced touch phones can show extremely detailed elements such as dropdown menus, round corners and shadows, and also have a generally higher resolution and more graphics.

For Berlingske Media it has been important for users to be able to start using the mobile portals and have their news served up in the most attractive fashion. Automatic detection of touch phones is therefore built-in, allowing users with these phones to make immediate full use of the mobile portals.

The five touch-optimised mobile portals are m.bt.dk, m.berlingske.dk, m.business.dk, m.erhvervsbladet.dk, and m.sporten.dk.
