Payment solution of the future
UGEN is Berlingske Media's latest venture, offering a concentrated version of the week's news in an electronic magazine published every Friday. UGEN will bring you the essence of the previous week's news to keep you broadly informed, and at a price which represents another venture for Berlingske Media. For DKK 49 you get the news delivered to your desktop four Fridays in succession.
Editorial Development Manager for Berlingske Media, Pernille Tranberg, emphasises that the time when publishers gave away all their news content on the web for free will soon be gone. "On the other hand, we're providing the absolute best journalistic team in Denmark, and the actual paid content element of the magazine has been made simple and straightforward. Payment can be made via a mobile phone account or credit card.
We believe that the flood of free news services cluttering the media scene are simply not enough for UGEN's target group - the reasonably well-off with little time to spare, including families with kids. This is a growing segment that is tired of the rapid-fire news updates on the web with no depth and essence, yet still has only a limited amount of time to read long newspaper articles. In other words: a target group which wants quality and which knows that it costs," says Tranberg.
The mobile payment solution of the future
Unwire has been part of the development of the new mobile payment solution which can handle payment via a mobile phone account or credit card. Project Manager Michael Pedersen at Unwire was in the thick of the intense development work: "It was truly exciting, challenging and educational. Just like any other news publisher, Berlingske Media works to tight deadlines and short lead times. But the biggest challenge of all was of course creating the mobile payment solution of the future, which combines payment by credit card or mobile phone account," he comments.
Berlingske Media's reason for offering the combined payment option is that many of UGEN's readers will want to pay via their mobile, but their accounts will be paid by their employer. "By charging the amount to their private credit card, they gain complete freedom as a consumer - a form of flexibility we're going to see a lot more of in the future," predicts Pedersen.
