Gyldendal invests in mobile technology

A new initiative from Gyldendal gives customers even easier access to all the Danish publisher’s titles. Now, customers can buy books directly on their mobile phone, and Gyldendal expects that future mobile sales will account for somewhere between 20-40% of total online sales: One click of the phone − and the parcel containing your books is sent to your home.

Gyldendal is boosting its service offering by giving its customers even easier access to all its book titles. Since the beginning of the month, customers of Denmark’s largest publishing house have been able to buy all Danish books directly from their mobile phone. If you are a TDC customer, the amount is added automatically to your mobile bill, and if you use another telephone operator, you will be sent a giro slip:

“The attraction is that it simply can’t be easier to buy or order because ‘mobil.g.dk’ is always accessible. A single press of a key on your mobile phone makes it even faster than buying online using your computer. Suddenly it is far more attractive to order novels when you’re sitting with a friend at a cafe bar talking about good writers or if you’re waiting at a bus stop. We expect mobile sales to account for somewhere between 20- 40% of total online book sales,” says Kenneth Kristensen, analytical and development manager at Gyldendal.

Strong company profile
Unwire has supplied Gyldendal’s mobile platform and from the outset the collaboration has been characterised by positive, creative and technical dialogue. Gyldendal has appreciated being at the cutting edge, and according to Kenneth Kristensen, the publishing house expects the portal to become popular with a wide target group:

“In particular, the mobile portal will benefit customers on the move, and initially it will be the younger audience who will embrace the new mobile options. However, we have every hope that the success will spread to the wider general public and that it will ensure even greater customer satisfaction.
The project is also a really excellent opportunity to profile the company, and we expect all telephone operators to participate over the long term. That would mean that all types of phone customers would be able to pay for their books via their mobile phone bills,” says Kenneth Kristensen.

Dynamic collaboration
The technical solution is chiefly rooted in Unwire’s standard platforms, while certain elements have been specially developed for Gyldendal. The publishing house is extremely satisfied with Unwire’s contribution, and Kenneth Kristensen looks forward to continued collaboration:

“Gyldendal has been closely involved in the many details, but Unwire has truly excelled as the driving force on the project. Unwire supplied the technical solution and the entire process has been flexible and painless, so we are very much looking forward to working together in the future,” concludes Kenneth Kristensen.
