Product launch: Portal Server Widgets

TDC is to be one of the first to launch Unwire's new 'Portal Server Widgets' product. Portal Server Widgets gives TDC as the portal owner the opportunity to give its users a much more personalised service than ever before, as users can select relevant content using widgets.

Unwire's Development Manager Jesper, Thor Rasmussen, was heavily involved in the project: "The Widget API is open, allowing TDC or its subcontractors to develop the widgets to be offered on its portals. What's more, content providers can opt to develop their own widgets and market them via Unwire's Widget Repository to reach more users," explains Rasmussen. "Initially, they can access the market via TDC's Fly portal, but we expect more and more media will make use of the solution in time."

More personal internet on your mobile
TDC is launching the widget solution in the form of widgets for Facebook, G-Mail, Vejret, TDC Mobil TV and TDC Play. Lars Knutsen, Head of TDC Mobile Internet Services says that TDC is delighted to be able to give its customers a more personal way to access the internet via their mobiles. The widget solution was developed in close collaboration between Unwire and TDC, and is state of the art in terms of exploiting the internet browsers of ordinary mobile phones. "To make more of widgets, you need to have a phone which supports widgets directly as part of the operating system, such as we know it from iPhone," states Knutsen.

The majority of TDC's customers do not have a smartphone with such facilities, which makes the widget solution ideal for those who want easy access to favourites such as Facebook, G-Mail and news from a single website. TDC is also launching the new widget solution along with a touch version of the popular Fly mobile portal, the most highly-visited in Denmark.

"The widget solution puts us on the leading edge of this web-oriented development, making it easy for us to provide TDC and partner services to users' screens. We want widgets first and foremost to show our customers the way to all the great features accessible from mobile internet, and to make it easier for corporate and private internet service providers alike to send mobile-adapted content to our customers. This is something the new solution facilitates," concludes Knutsen.
